A G Sinclair's Lamp Collection |
||||
| Lamp Collection Biographical Lamp Database & Web Creation | ||||
A G Sinclair was an avid lamp collector during his entire adult life. He
collected many types of lamps from all over the world. He was an active
member of the Rushlight club from 1940 until his death in 1955.
His lamps were shown at a number of exhibitions, the most notable being
a show at the Museum of Science and Industry at Radio City in New York
in 1944. After his death, approximately 100 of the original collection
of 450 lamps were inherited by my mother, Jean Sinclair Schade and
it is these lamps which make up the bulk of the collection shown on this
web site. Before
viewing the lamp collection, please choose the number of lamps to be displayed
per page and the lamp sort criterion. This web site is still in its infancy
so please bear with me for a few months. I hope that you enjoy
my grandfather's lamps. If you have time, please email me your comments
and suggestions.

| .............Biographical
Information.............
After taking a number of degrees and becoming a minister, he spent a short time in the Yukon during the gold rush of the early 1900's. He then traveled and went to universities in Europe including Scotland and Germany. Later after settling down in Bloomfield, N.J. as pastor of the Bloomfield First Presbyterian Church, he made a number of memorable trips to Europe and the Middle East between the two Great Wars which are recorded in memorable diaries. Below is a good family biography of Dr. Sinclair written by his daughter, Jean Sinclair Schade. Family Biography of A G Sinclair by Jean Sinclair Schade (Windows doc format)

Lamp
collecting has been in my family since before I was born ( about 60 years
ago). My grandfather, A
G Sinclair, and his daughter and my mother, Jean Sinclair Schade, both
spent many enjoyable hours studying lamps. Also, one of my parents' close
friends who recently passed away, Malcolm Watkins of the Smithsonian Institution,
was a truly renowned collector of lamps. So
after seeing his unbelievable collection recently on
a trip to New England, I decided
to organize the lamps and lamp information that my mother still possessed. Being
a practicing engineer, this meant creating a lamp computer data base and putting
the collection up on a web site for the rest of the family and friends
to see and enjoy. In hopes of helping others
to learn from my efforts and mistakes, I also
have written three articles on the following subjects which are available
for download on this web site. 1.
"Definition of a Suitable Lamp Database". 2.
"A Microsoft Access Lamp Database". 3. "Creating a Lamp Web Site using a Server Side Database and PHP". "Who are the Targeted
Readers for These Articles? Definition of a Suitable Lamp Database" is aimed at any lamp collector who wishes to write down information about their lamps. No real technical expertise is required. "A Microsoft
Access Lamp Database" presumes that the reader owns a standard PC and
has the desire and ability to learn to use a PC database for storing information
on a lamp collection. I chose Microsoft
Access as my data base program because it is a good database program and
it is the most widely available. However,
the information in this document could easily be transferred to any standard
relational database. The download is in zip format and contains the
article plus a sample lamp database.
"Creating
a Lamp Web Site using a Server Side Database and PHP" is targeted
at knowledge PC users who know some programming language and wish to design
their own lamp website. Although
I know little about web page design, I
write software programs all the time and I work with other engineers who
are knowledgeable in basic web site programming. The
download is in zip format and contains the article plus a sample html index
page, sample database for upload to a Mysql server database engine and
the PHP files used in this web site database.
